Initially, PlasticFreeJuly was a challenge which took place in an Australian residential area where people had realized they were using too much plastic. From there, the challenge was to spend a month without using plastic. Since then, the word has spread worldwide and many challenges have been held.

The founder of PlasticFreeCambodia, Sarah Rhodes, who is coming from Australia, has brought the idea with her to Siem Reap in 2014. Two year later, Phnom Penh and Battambang have already joined her in the project.

However PlasticFreeCambodia is not only about supporting the application of the challenge in Cambodia, it is also about providing people the necessary sensibilization and moreover education concerning the plastic issue.
